Acupuncture is great for people who want to stop smoking and drinking, or recovering from substance abuse. The treatments are similar for these people who share a common physiological development of their bodies, from addiction to recovery.
Here are the goals and objectives of the treatment plan:
Ø
Decrease Craving Ø
Eliminate toxins Ø
Reduce withdraw symptoms. Ø
Relieve anxiety Ø
Repair damage to organs and systems. Ø
Strengthen and rebuild the body These goals can be achieved with a series of treatments over a period of time and the results are most effective when combined with counseling and therapy; since most people turn to these substance as a way to escape other aspects of life.
The Treatment
After a comprehensive history and exam, each patient will be placed in their own treatment room where they can relax and reflect during the process. Needles are inserted on the arms and legs of the patients, as well as in each ear. Each treatment session is about 30-45 minutes with the needles in the body. Some people feel the warmth and tingling sensation in their bodies throughout the treatment, others simply fall asleep once they are relaxed. Either response is normal and accepted.
How many sessions?
Each patient is evaluated for his or her progress after the 5th and 10th treatment.
Additional treatments are required to achieve the desired results and to rebuild the body if the length of addiction has been over 5 years.
